5 K Run

On March 18th, 2023, Mangala College of Allied Health Sciences in association with Mangala Kidney Foundation, Mangala Students Council Alumni Association, NSS Unit, and Red Cross Unit organized a 5k Run for Kidneys to create awareness about World Kidney Day. The event was held to promote kidney health for all and raise awareness about preventive behaviors, risk factors, and how to live with kidney disease.

Ms. Manisha welcomed the guests and dignitaries who were present, followed by a prayer song led by Ms. Vichetha and her team. And Ms. Rachana, an intern of the Mangala College of Allied Health Sciences, welcomed the guests and introduced the purpose of the event.

The program began with a speech from the chief guest, Ms. Geeta D. Kulkarni, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mangalore Traffic Division. She urged the students and the general public to take care of their kidney health and follow traffic rules to protect human life and health.

Dr. Moideen Nafeer, Director of Mangala Kidney Foundation, provided more information about kidney health and kidney protection. The event was graced by the presence of Mangala College’s Principal, Prof. Pratijna Suhasini, Vice-Principal, Prof. Geethalakshmi, Dr. Mary Elizabeth Pinto, Principal of New Mangala Nursing College, and Dr. Bharat K. H, Principal of Mangala College of Physiotherapy.

Jayanth Nayak, the organizing secretary, Mithun, N.S.S. Program Officer, Vijetha, YRC Unit Coordinator, Renita, Allied Health Sciences Student Council President, and Bharat, Paramedical Science Council President were also present at the event. The Alumni Association of the college arranged to give dialyzers to eligible dialysis patients from Mangalore and Manjeshwar, with Abubakar, Vice President of the Alumni Association, handing over the dialyzers to student leaders.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the logo competition held in honor of World Kidney Day by Ms. Geeta D. Kulkarni. The 5K run, which started from Mangala Hospital and Kidney Foundation and proceeded to Nantoor, ended with the concluding ceremony at Kadri ground. Overall, the event was successful in raising awareness about kidney health and promoting the importance of prevention and early detection.

Ms. Lorena Dcosta, Lecturer of the dialysis department at Mangala College of Allied Health Sciences, delivered the vote of thanks.
